Special activities at Converge give students the opportunity to develop essential skills in a safe environment.
Once a day, Converge students participate in community outings for swimming, bowling, library activities, park visits, or frisbee golf. It is their chance to learn more about the world around them in a safe way with the support they need to be successful. Students are also given opportunities to participate in Special Olympics events including basketball and track and field. Other outings have included nature hikes at Jackson Lake State Park, farm visits, and even a trip to Nebraska to see the solar eclipse in 2017.
Students often think of these outings as their favorite part of their Converge schedule, but they are much more than just fun trips. We are dedicated to helping students learn to regulate themselves and operate effectively in many environments, not just in the classroom. Special activities are an essential part of how our students build relationships and understand their world.
